ALME, a farmer of Dane County, WI, was born on section 33, Pleasant Spring Township, Dane County, WI, 03 Aug 1848, a son of Ole and Susan (DODD) Hermanson ALME, natives of Bergen [Hordaland fylke], Norway. The parents married in their native State, and came to America in 1847. While in the old country the father was engaged in driving livestock to Christiania [now Oslo], and after coming to America followed farming. He died of cholera in 1854, leaving four children: (1) Herman O., our subject; (2) Mette Malone; (3) Caroline, the wife of Ole HANSEN, of Stoughton [Dane County], WI; and (4) Lina J., of Dunkirk Township [Dane County, WI]. The mother still resides in this township, aged 62 years. After he death of her first husband she married a Mr. EVANS, and they had three sons and two daughters. Herman O., the subject of this sketch, was reared by a stepfather [Mr. EVANS?], and received only a limited education, having had to walk three miles over a marsh to reach the school. In the fall of 1872 he began life for himself, and he now owns a fine farm of 110 acres, which he has cleared and improved. He is engaged in general farming and stock raising. Politically Mr. ALME affiliates with the Democratic party, and has held all the minor offices of his township. Religiously he is a member of the Lutheran Church. On 16 Jun 1884 Herman O. ALME was united in marriage with Bertha KNUTSON, a native of Norway, but who came to America in infancy. Mr. and Mrs. ALME have three living children: Orin Alexander, Olive Melvina, and Selmer.
