RODNEY J. CURRIER BIOGRAPHY History by "Early History of Jefferson: The Jefferson Banner, June 7 ,1923. Rodney J. Currier was born in New Hampshire around 1808. We don't know who is parents are or if there were other siblings. What we do know is that he was one of the first settlers in the Milwaukee area(1). He arrived there in 1833 with Albert Fowler, Andrew J. Lansing and Quartus G. Carley where they lived in an abandoned cabin for one year. Now whether Rodney J. moved on to Jefferson County or whether he stayed where he was but the county line changed I'm not sure. I do know that Rodney married Mary Fellows in Jefferson, Jefferson, Wisconsin. On 10 Aug 1837 Rodney J. Currier through an asignee, Jabes K. Botsford, registered for land in Green Bay under the Act of congress of the 24th of April 1820 for the sale of public lands in Michigan Territory, eighty acres (certificate number 443). On file in the Jefferson courthouse is the marriage certificate for Rodney J. Currier and Mary Fellows on 4 Nov. 1841. In the 1850 census I find Mary Currier and her children, John, Jane, Mary and Ellen living with her sister, Martha M. Fellows Roberts and her family which consisted of her husband, F. J. Roberts and children, James, Amerlia, Jesse, Sidney and Laura. Living next door is F. J. Roberts' parents, Jesee Roberts and his wife Betsey with Marvin and Emory, their children. I believe that Rodney J. had gone to the gold mines in California. On the 1850 census on the Consumnes River, in El Dorado County, California I have found a Rodney J. Curran. I believe that this is our Rodney J. Currier. His age is 41 and he was born in N. H. In 1857 Rodney J. Currier of the county of Jefferson was registered in the land office at Stevens Point for 139 acres of land (certificate number 6448). In the 1860 census we find R. J. Currier (age 52) back at home in Jefferson with his wife, Mary (age 37) and their children, John (18), Jane (16), Mary(14), Ellen (12), Charles (7), Warren (4) and Jay (3)(I believe this is James). This information does not show up on Ancestry.com or Genealogy.com as it was never listed in the census index. I personally went through the entire Jefferson, Wisconsin census film in Salt Lake City and found them. Living close by is William P. Ward, his wife and children. Jane Currier, daughter of Rodney and Mary Currier married William's son, William P. (William's family also has no mention in the census index.) The last we hear of Rodney is in 1863 when he made a land purchase. In the 1870 census we find Mary Fellows Currier married to Mathias Griffith living in Farmington, Jefferson, Wisconsin along with her two youngest children, Warren and Mary B. Submitted by Candis L.
