Burlington: Ullery Publishing Company, 1912, p 156 Charles Hayden CRANDALL, Burlington [Chittenden County, Vermont], architect, was born 02 May 1870 at Norwich [Windsor County, Vermont], son of William Nelson and Ann Roxana (HAYDEN) CRANDALL. Educated in the public schools of Norwich and Miss SHERMAN's private school. At the age of eighteen left the farm and engaged in carpentry, continuing six years; studied architecture with Louis Sheldon NEWTON of Hartford [Windsor County, Vermont]; in 1896 designed and superintended the Lake Mitchell club house, at Sharon [Windsor County], later designing and superintending valuable work at Hanover [Grafton County], New Hampshire, and Woodstock [Windsor County, Vermont], and worked through the construction of some of the largest buildings for Dartmouth College. Located at Burlington in 1903, since which many worthy public and private structures in both Vermont and New Hampshire have been designed by him, among the latest being the Randolph High School [Vermont] and Lancaster Congregational Church [New Hampshire]. Politically Mr. CRANDALL is a Republican, and religiously, a Congregationalist. He is a member of the Mason fraternity.
