Chittenden CHITTENDEN, Luther Vermont Historical Magazine, No XI, October 1867, p 864 (excerpt from a section on the history of Shelburne, Chittenden, Vermont) Luther CHITTENDEN, a son of Bethuel, a respectable farmer, having a family of four children; whist engaged in stoning a well for Remington BITGOOD, by accident fell into the well and was so badly injured as to cause his death in a short time. He was insensible when taken from the well. This was on 15 November 1816, just one week before [Remington] BITGOOD committed suicide. [By calculation Remington BITGOOD died 22 November 1816.] He [Luther CHITTENDEN] was fifty-two years of age. Submitted by Cathy Kubly
