BROWN, lawyer, Burlington [Chittenden County, Vermont]. was born 03 December 1854 at Dickinson [Franklin County], New York, son of John T. and Margaret A. (DILLENBECK) BROWN. He was educated at Lawrenceville and Amsterdam Academies. He taught school and worked on a farm until twenty-three years of age. He studied law with Wales & Taft, Burlington [Chittenden County, Vermont], and was admitted to the Vermont Bar in 1881; began practice in Burlington April 1891, continuing to the present time; in 1911 was president of the Vermont Bar Association. Republican; states attorney, Chittenden County, 01 December 1894 to 01 December 1900; senator from Chittenden County 1900; was chairman of the committee on claims; member of the joint committee on state and court expenses; and on the committees on judiciary and banks.
