Burlington: Ullery Publishing Company, 1912, pp 129-130 Nathaniel King BROWN, banker and real estate broker, Burlington [Chittenden County, Vermont], was born 17 April 1834 in Tunbridge [Orange County, Vermont], son of Jeremiah and Nancy Folsom (KING) BROWN. Educated in the public schools. Was in the drug business in Wisconsin 1856-1857; commercial traveler 1858-1860; postmaster in Waterbury [Washington County, Vermont] 1861-1864; in the drug business in Montpelier [Washington County] 1864-1870, when he removed to Burlington [Chittenden County, Vermont] and conducted a wholesale proprietary medicine business; manufactured N. K. Brown's Essence Jamaica Ginger, Brown's Teething Cordial, Brown's Bronchials, etc., each having a national reputation; was engaged in the business for more than thirty-five years. At present trustee and treasurer of the House Savings Bank, Burlington, which position he has held for the past fourteen years; also in the real estate and collection business. In 1856 he [Nathaniel King BROWN] married [Miss?] Susan Gilman MOODY of Waterbury [Washington County, Vermont], who died in December 1893; they had five children, three now living, Ella Gertrude, Julia Frances and Bessie Belle. Mr. BROWN is a Republican; was a member of the board of street commissioners, Burlington, fourteen years, alderman four years. Member of the First Congregational Church, Burlington, forty-one years, deacon for over twenty years; member of the executive committee of State Sunday School and Young Men's Christian Associations for several years.
