Chittenden BLIN, Samuel, Simon & William Vermont Historical Magazine, No XI, October 1867, p 863 William BLIN, emigrated to this town [Shelburne, Chittenden County, Vermont] from Connecticut in an early day, with several sons; located on a portion of the Governor's right, a short distance south of SPEARS'; did not live many years after he came to Shelburne. [The SPEARS referred to was, as the text notes on the previous page, Richard SPEARS, who came to Shelburne on 21 July 1783, purchased a lot on the east side of Shelburne Bay, a part of which was in the town of Burlington, and erected a log house on the bank [east bank of Lake Champlain], near the water, just south of the Burlington line. If William BLIN was south of SPEARS, then BLIN was likely also located very near, if not on, the west bank of Lake Champlain. The original charter of the town of Shelburne, then in the Province of New Hampshire (the text of which appears on pages 354-355) was issued by George III, 18 August 1763, and consisted of equal shares of land granted to seventy, as the document puts it, "loving subjects," one of whom was apparently William BLIN.] Simon BLIN, a son of William, owned and occupied a portion of the lot on which his father resided; was a prominent citizen; held several offices, constable, selectman, etc.; kept a public house for many years; raised a large family of children. He [Simon BLIN] died 05 April 1819, aged fifty-three years. [By calculation Simon BLIN was born about 1766; his father, William BLIN, probably wed before 1766.] Samuel BLIN, a son of William, owned and occupied another portion of the farm purchased by his father; was an enterprising and influential citizen in the community; filled various offices in the gift of the people, kept a public house for many years, reared a large family of children. The street on which these two brothers [Simon and Samuel BLIN] were located has long been known as Blin Street, and the neighborhood as the Blin District. He [Samuel BLIN] died 27 November 1844, aged seventy-three years. [By calculation Samuel BLIN was born about 1771.
