Burlington: Ullery Publishing Company, 1912, p 100 Lyman ALLEN, physician and surgeon, Burlington, was born 21 May 1872 at Burlington [Chittenden County, Vermont], son of Charles Edward and Ellen Cornelia (LYMAN) ALLEN. [Father's name should be Charles Edwin ALLEN. He was born 28 November 1838 in Burlington, Vermont, and died 13 September 1896. Charles Edwin ALLEN and Ellen Cornelia LYMAN were married 1867. This family is enumerated in the 1880 Census of Burlington: Charles ALLEN, forty-one, lawyer, born in Vermont, about 1839 by his census age, to a father born in New York and mother born in Vermont; his wife Ellen C., thirty-seven, born in Vermont, about 1843, to a father born in Vermont and mother born in New York; and his three children, all born in Vermont to parent also born there: (1) Joseph D. ALLEN (Joseph Dana ALLEN), nine, born about 1871 (born 16 October 1870 in Burlington, Vermont); (2) Lyman, eight, born about 1872 (same year given in biography); and (3) Florence, two, born about 1878 (born 11 November 1877 in Burlington, Vermont). Also in the household are Charles ALLEN's mother, Eliza R. ALLEN, seventy-nine, born in Vermont, about 1801, to a father born in Connecticut and mother born in Massachusetts; and his aunt, Almira S. JOHNSON, sixty-eight, born in Vermont to a father born in Connecticut and mother born in Massachusetts. Also in the household are three individuals unrelated to the family, who are servants.] Lyman ALLEN was educated at the University of Vermont, and University of Vermont College of Medicine; degree of A. B. 1893, and M. D. 1896. He was in Boston City Hospital as a surgical intern 1895-1897; attending surgeon to Fanny Allen Hospital; visiting physician to the Home for Destitute Children, and the Providence Orphan Asylum; and adjunct professor of surgery in the University of Vermont College of Medicine. Mr. ALLEN is a Republican; a member of the Protestant Episcopal Church; vestryman of St. Paul's Church; member of the board of trustees of Vermont Episcopal Institute, Rock Point; member of the American Medical Association; Vermont State Medical Society, Burlington; and Chittenden County Clinical Society, of which he is a former president; president of the University of Vermont Athletic Association; vice president of Alpha Chapter of Vermont, Phi Beta Kappa; member of Sigma Phi Fraternity; Ethan Allen Club; and Waubanaukee Golf Club.
