Chittenden County ALLEN, Heman Vermont Historical Magazine, No. XI, October 1867, p 764 Heman ALLEN, the son of Heber ALLEN, who died at Poultney [Rutland County, Vermont], was, at an early age, adopted into the family of his uncle, Ira ALLEN, of Colchester [Chittenden County, Vermont]. He was Town Clerk of Colchester from 1807 to 1817; Sheriff of the County of Chittenden in 1808 and 1809; Chief Judge of the County Court in 1811 and the three succeeding years; Marshall of the State under the first term of Mr. MONROE's administration; and afterwards, in 1823, was appointed by President MONROE, Minister of Plenipotentiary to the Government of Chili, where he remained through the succeeding administration of John Quincy ADAMS. After his return from Chili, he resided in Burlington [Chittenden County, Vermont] and Highgate, and died at the latter place [Highgate, Franklin County, Vermont] in 1852, from whence his remains were removed and buried in the Allen Cemetery at Burlington.
