Chittenden County ALLEN, Heman Vermont Historical Magazine, No. XI, October 1867, p 340 Heman ALLEN was the first lawyer that settled in Milton [Chittenden County, Vermont]. He came here as early as 1802, and pursued his profession with signal ability and credit from that time until 1827, when he moved to Burlington [Vermont], where he resided until his death. He was a member of Congress from 1831 to 1839, and for many years a member of the Corporation of the University of Vermont, and took a great deal of interest in the welfare of that institution. He [Heman ALLEN] died at Burlington [Chittenden County], Vermont, 11 December 1844, aged sixty-eight years, much esteemed and respected for his many virtues. Submitted by Cathy Kubly
