CHARLES CECH, proprietor of tannery, dealer in leather, shoe- findings, hides, pelts, etc.; born in Bohemia Feb. 29, 1844; landed in New York City Sept. 28, 1856; came to Watertown the same year; engaged in present business most of the time since, except two years in the saloon business and a year or two that he was employed as a traveling agent; commenced present business for himself April 1, 1873. July 18, 1871, he was married to Carrie Derksen (daughter of Theodore V. Derksen, then a resident of Portage City, Wis., now a citizen of Watertown); she was born in Germany; they have four children – Laura, Toni, Alma and Hugo. Mr. Cech has been a member of the Turner Society for sixteen years; he is also a member of the Sons of Hermann and of the Pioneer Fire Company, No. 1.
