Burlington: Ullery Publishing Company, 1912, pp 255-256 Frank Griggs McMILLAN, contractor and builder, Minneapolis [Hennepin County], Minnesota, was born 04 October 1856 at Danville [Caledonia County], Vermont, son of Col. Andrew and Susan GRIGGS McMILLAN. His father, a graduate of West Point, was descended from Col Andrew McMILLAN of Ulster, Ireland, who came to America in 1754, General John McMILLAN, one of his [Andrew's] sons, being the grandfather of the subject of this sketch. Frank Griggs McMILLAN was educated in the district schools, and Dummer Academy, Bayfield [Essex County], Massachusetts. In early life Mr. McMILLAN served an apprenticeship in the printing trade in the old "North Star" office, at Danville, the second newspaper established in Vermont. He later worked as a journeyman printer in Boston. Mr. McMILLAN removed to Minneapolis in 1878 and engaged for a time in his trade. Owing to ill health he sought an outdoor occupation and interested himself in building. He is now one of the leading contractors in the city. Mr. McMILLAN is a Democrat, was state senator in 1890, was chairman of the Senate Capital Commission two years, and author of a bill providing for the erection of the new State Capitol at St. Paul. He was appointed by Gov. LIND a member of the State Board of Equalization, and served two years as its chairman; was a member of Minneapolis board of park commissioners two years; was six years a member of the board of education. He is now serving as a member of the board of corrections and charities. Mr. McMILLAN is a member of the Minnesota Commercial Club, Lafayette Club, Minnetonka Beach, St. Anthony Falls Commercial Club, John A. Rawlins Post of the Citizens Staff, Six O'Clock Club, Minnesota Society Sons of the American Revolution, Minnesota Society Sons of Colonial Wars, Vermont Association of Minnesota, and a member and trustee of the First Congregational Church of Minneapolis. Residence at 700 Tenth Avenue S. E., Minneapolis, Minnesota. In 1881 he [Frank Griggs McMILLAN] married [Miss?] Lillian A.
