HUBBARD, of Lyndon, was born 03 February 1841 in Lyndon [Caledonia County, Vermont], son of Richard and Loraine (WEEKS) HUBBARD. Received his education in the common schools of his native town and at Lyndon Academy. Enlisted 01 September 1863 in Company M, Eleventh Regiment Vermont Volunteers, and on the completion of its organization was appointed sergeant. Served in this capacity one year; made hospital steward of the regiment and served as such until the close of the war. [The Civil War officially ended in April 1865.] Then studied medicine at the Bellevue Hospital Medical College, New York, from which he graduated 01 March 1867. The following April went to Lunenburg [Essex County, Vermont], where he practiced medicine six years; then located permanently at Lyndon. Represented Lyndon at the General Assembly in 1882 and 1886. In each session was a member of the committee on he insane, and offered in he House the joint resolutions requesting the Governor to appoint a commission to investigate the advisability and location of a separate building for the care of the criminal and convict insane, which resulted in the construction of the asylum at Waterbury [Washington County, Vermont]. In 1883 was made president of the St. Johnsbury board of examining surgeons for pensions, which office he acceptably filled for more than two years. Is deacon of the Congregational church. Is a practitioner of the regular school and since 1867 has belonged to the White Mountain Medical Society; also a member of the Vermont Medical Society, and was one of its license censors tow years; has served as treasurer of the Lyndon Republican Club. Member of Cresent Lodge Free & Accepted Masons, Lyndonville; Chamberlin Post Grand Army of the Republic, No. 1, of St. Johnsbury; has taken great interest in the academy and graded schools of Lyndon, serving on the committee the past twelve years. On 10 November 1868 Dr. [Lorenzo W.] HUBBARD married Mary E., daughter of Bela and Martha (PERRY) HALTON. Of this union there was issue: Charles Bela, May E.
