Educated in the public schools of Wheelock [Caledonia County]. Followed farming on the home farm in Wheelock until 1889, when he removed to Sheffield; was one of the firm of Hill & Sheldon, grain dealers and grocers; in 1909 they sold the business to H. L. BAILY; engages in farming to a small extent; has been in the grain and fertilizer business for twenty years. Democrat; is selectman, which office he has held ten years; was lister three years; deputy sheriff four years. Member of the Methodist Church, steward and financial agent. Member Crescent Lodge No. 66, Free & Accepted Masons, of Lyndonville; Haswell Chapter No. 11, Royal Arch Masons; Palestine Commandery No. 5, Knights Templar, of St. Johnsbury; the Grange; and is treasurer and past councillor of Council No. 39, Junior Order of United American Mechanics.
