Burlington: Ullery Publishing Company, 1912, p 215 Augustus Smith HASKINS, optometrist, St. Johnsbury [Caledonia County, Vermont[, was born 09 June 1872 at Wilseville [Tompkins County], New York, son of Harrison David and Nancy L. HASKINS. Educated at public schools of Ithaca [Tompkins County], New York; one year special preparation for profession at Cornell; 1889-1890 took optometrical training in Philadelphia and Chicago. Began optical and jewelry business with George E. SHERWOOD, Waterloo [Seneca County], New York, in 1891; graduated from Kansas Optometrical College in June 1896. In May 1898 took charge of the optometrical department for Wheelhouse Company, Utica [Oneida County], New York. In 1900 went to St. Johnsbury and purchased jewelry and optical business of H. A. BELKNAP estate, continuing until 1904, selling jewelry stock to Lurchin & Lurchin, since conducting a strictly optimetrical practice. In 1904 took post graduate course at Chicago Eye, Nose and Throat College on anatomy, physiology and pathology of the eye, and graduated July 1905. Secretary Vermont state board of examiners in optometry, 1909 to date. Republican. Congregationalist. Charter member Utica (New York) Optometrical Society; honorary member New York State Optometrical Society; charter member Vermont State Optical Society; member Physiological Section of the American Optical Association; charter member American Optical Association, and its treasurer since 1909. On 27 July 1897 he [Augustus Smith HASKINS] married [Miss?] Alice C.
