(VARNUM) HARVEY. Educated at Peacham Academy; honorary degree LL. D. Erskine College 1904; University of Nevada 1907; University of Vermont, 1911. Was consecutively reporter for the "Springfield Republican," the "Chicago News," and the "New York World;" managing editor of the "New York World;" insurance commissioner for New Jersey, 1888; colonel and aide-de-camp to Governors GREEN and ABBETT, New Jersey; honorary colonel under Governors HAYWARD and ANSEL, South Carolina; constructor and president of various electric railroads. Has been editor of "Harper's Weekly" for many years. Bought the "North American Review" in 1899. Was president of Harper & Brothers 1900. An Independent Democrat. Episcopalian. Residence: Deal [Monmouth County], New Jersey. Office: Franklin Square, New York City. In 1887 he [George HARVEY] married [Miss?] Alma A.
