Educated at the public schools and at Peacham Academy [Caledonia County]. Taught school in Newbury [Orange County] and Ryegate; was shipping clerk at Springfield [Windsor County, Vermont] two years; has for many years conducted a farm in Ryegate; for many years secretary of Ryegate and Wells River Valley Dairymen's Association; library trustee ten years; and secretary of the committee of twenty-eight under whose supervision the history of Ryegate was prepared. Republican; has been school director, lister, and selectman, and cemetery commissioner for twelve years; represented Ryegate in the Legislature in 1902; and was delegate to county and state conventions. Is a United Presbyterian; elder of clerk and sessions. Member of the Forest and Steam Club of Caledonia County. In 1877 he [William Nelson GILFILLAN] married [Miss?] S.
