GIFFIN, merchant, Sheffield [Caledonia County, Vermont], was born 07 March 1854 at Hardwick [Caledonia County, Vermont], son of George and Ursula (STEVENS) GIFFIN. Educated in the public schools of Sheffield. Began business life as a painter in a furniture store in Manchester [Hillsborough County], New Hampshire. After two years he returned to Sheffield, and formed the firm of Folsom & Giffin; later built a large store and formed the firm of Giffin & Simpson, general merchandise. He has been doing business in the same place for thirty-five years; since 1910 has conducted the business alone. Has been postmaster since 1855. Republican. Member of the library committee of Sheffield. Methodist; musical director for twenty-five years. Member of Crescent Lodge No. 66, Free & Accepted Masons, of Lyndonville [Caledonia County], and the Junior Order of American Mechanics. In 1877 he [Albert J. GIFFIN] married [Miss?] Jennie N.
