GEORGE, grain dealer, South Ryegate [Caledonia County, Vermont], was born 19 October 1854 in Topsham [Orange County, Vermont], son of William T. and Harriet B. (WEED) GEORGE. Educated in the public schools of Topsham and at Bradford Academy [Orange County]. Worked on a farm previous to 1872, when he was employed in a general store in Topsham. Later employed in the dry goods store of A. H. Bailey, Montpelier [Washington County, Vermont]; in 1878 accompanied Mr. BAILEY when he removed to Groton [Caledonia County, Vermont]; in 1879 went to South Ryegate as clerk for George L. HALL, general store, where he remained five years. Manager of the Ryegate granite works store two years; later in company with J. B. Darling & Son, where he remained ten years, when he sold out and became manager of the grain business of E. FORSYTH at South Ryegate, purchasing the business in 1904; this he has since conducted. Republican; select man for several years; has held all the town offices; administrator of twelve different estates. Member United Presbyterian Church of South Ryegate; elder of the church twenty years, and has held many other church offices. In 1884 he [William T. GEORGE] married [Miss?] Maila T.
