Brattleboro: Transcript Publishing Company, 1894, p 72 John Calvin CLARK, St. Johnsbury [Caledonia County, Vermont], was born 03 June 1852 in Lunenburg [Essex County, Vermont], son of John S. and Ann E. (ROBINSON) CLARK. [Note the mother's name is given as Eliza Ann in the second biography.] His educational advantages were received in the public and private schools of Detroit [Wayne County], Michigan, and he commenced his business career at the age of eighteen, when he was employed as a clerk in he First National Bank at St. Johnsbury. In 1873 he accepted the position of cashier in the First National Bank of Chelsea, but after then years returned to St. Johnsbury as assistant cashier in the institution in which he was first employed. In 1886 he was promoted to the post of cashier, which he retained until 1893, when he resigned to become the treasurer of the E. & T. Fairbanks Company. Mr. CLARK is also treasurer of the St. Johnsbury Electric Light Company, The Mystic Club, and Home for Aged Women, and is a director of the First National Bank. A stanch Republican, but has never held any political office excepting that of clerk of the village corporation. He is a member of the Sons of Veterans, and of Passumpsic Lodge No. 27, of St. Johnsbury. On 14 April 1881 he [John Calvin CLARK] was united in marriage to Lida E., daughter of Rev. John M. and Anna Haselton PUFFER. Entered First National Bank, Chelsea, 1873; assistant cashier First National Bank, St. Johnsbury, 1883; cashier 1886; treasurer of E. & T. Fairbanks & Company 1893, secretary and treasurer 1895; general manager 1911; now holds these several offices in the company; director First National Bank since 1893; director, secretary, and treasurer of St. Johnsbury Electric Company; director and treasurer of E. & T. Fairbanks & Company, Ltd., Sherbrooke, Province of Quebec. Republican; represented St. Johnsbury in the Legislature 1894. Member of the Congregational Church. In 1881 he [John Calvin CLARK] married [Miss?] Lida Ella PUFFER, of Chelsea [Orange County, Vermont]; they have four children: Robert Puffer, Margaret Robinson, Arthur Dana, and Dorothea Clark.
