CHENEY, St. Johnsbury [Caledonia County, Vermont], dental surgeon, was born 07 November 1854 at Lunenburg [Essex County, Vermont], son of Lieut. Nathan C. and Miranda (POWERS) CHENEY. Educated in the public schools, St. Johnsbury Academy, and a graduate of Philadelphia Dental College, 1883. Followed the occupation of telegraph operator for a few years. After graduating in dentistry formed a partnership with Dr. Charles D. NEWELL of ST. Johnsbury, taking the full practice from Dr. NEWELL 1885, and continuing that practice since. Has been president of Vermont State Dental Society, and New England Dental Association; member of Northeastern Dental Association; member of state board of dental examiners fifteen years, secretary of same for ten years. Republican. Member Congregational Church. Past master Passumpsic Lodge No. 27, Free & Accepted Masons, St. Johnsbury; member Haswell Chapter, Royal Arch Masons; past commander of Palestine Commandery No. 5, Knights Templar; sixteenth degree Scottish Rite Mason; and member of Mount Sinai Temple, Mystic Shrine. In 1886 he [George F. CHENEY] married [Miss?] Persis H. PEABODY of St. Johnsbury [Caledonia County, Vermont]; she [Persis H. CHENEY] died 1895; in 1897 he [George F.
