Caledonia CHANDLER, John Winthrop Vermont Historical Magazine, No XI, October 1867, p 364 Hon. John Winthrop CHANDLER was born in 1767, the son of Gen. John CHANDLER, of Newtown [County], Connecticut, who died at Peacham [Caledonia County, Vermont] 15 March 1796. [The first recorded death of an adult in Peacham was that of Gen. John CHANDLER of Newtown, Connecticut, father of Hon. John W. CHANDLER, 15 March 1796.] He was one of the early settlers of the town, was successful in his business transactions, amassed a large property, and after filling many offices of trust and honor, he [John Winthrop CHANDLER] died 15 July 1855, aged eighty-eight years. He was assistant judge six years, treasurer of the Grammar School, and of the town of Peacham thirty-four years, when both these offices were transferred to his son, Samuel A.
