Caledonia CHAMBERLAIN, Mellen & William Vermont Historical Magazine, No XI, October 1867, p 367 Mellen & William CHAMBERLAIN were sons of William CHAMBERLAIN. Mellen CHAMBERLAIN was born 17 June 1795, graduated at Dartmouth in 1816, and was in the practice of law some years in the state of Maine. While making a tour of Europe, Mellen CHAMBERLAIN drowned in the Danube River on 14 May 1840. His grave is on the banks of the Danube, Province in Servia, Empire of Austria. William CHAMBERLAIN, born 24 May 1797, graduated at Dartmouth in 1818. In 1820 he was elected professor of languages in his alma mater, and so continued until his death, 11 July 1830.
