William Seward BOYNTON, of St. Johnsbury, was born 02 April 1853 at St. 
Johnsbury [Caledonia County, Vermont, son of David and Harriet (CHAMBERLAIN) 
BOYNTON. His early education was received at the public schools of that 
town. He afterwards attended the St. Johnsbury Academy, where he was 
graduated in 1873. He entered Cornell University with the class of 1877, 
where he pursued a scientific and literary course of studies. In 1877 he 
became treasurer and a trustee of the Passumpsic Savings Bank, which position 
he has since held. He has also served as treasurer of the village, county 
and union school district.

On 08 September 1881 Mr. [William Seward] BOYNTON was married to [Miss?] Ida 
P. BANCROFT, formerly of Chelsea [Suffolk County], Massachusetts, daughter of 
William and Statira (HASKELL) BANCROFT. Their three children are: Helen 
Agnes, Alice Harriet, and William Henry. Republican. Honorary member of the 
National Guard of Vermont, having served as first lieutenant of Company D, 
First Regiment.

William Seward BOYNTON, banker, St. Johnsbury [Vermont], was born 02 April 
1853 at St. Johnsbury [Caledonia County, Vermont], son of David and Harriet 
(CHAMBERLAIN) BOYNTON. Educated at St. Jonhsbury Academy, class of 1873, and 
Cornell University, class of 1877. Mr. BOYNTON has been treasurer and 
trustee Passumpsic Savings Bank [Caledonia County] since 1877; also county 
treasurer. Member of Vermont National Guard; at one time 1st lieutenant, 
Company B.

In 1881 he [William Seward BOYNTON] married [Miss?] Ida P. BANCROFT of 
Chelsea [Suffolk County], Massachusetts; they had five children: Helen A., 
Smith College 1905; David B., deceased; Alice H., deceased; William H., 
Williams College 1913; and Katharine. Mr. BOYNTON is a Republican. 
Vestryman of St. Andrew's Protestant Episcopal Church. Member of Passumpsic 
Lodge No. 27, Free & Accepted Masons; Haswell Chapter No. 11, Royal Arch 
Masons; and Palestine Commandery No 5, Knights Templar, in which he has held 
the offices of prelate and eminent commander.
