BIGELOW, editor and publisher, St. Johnsbury [Caledonia County, Vermont], was born 22 January 1865 at Stowe [Lamoille County, Vermont], son of Newell and Charlotte (MUNN) BIGELOW. Educated at Montpelier Seminary and University of Vermont. Worked seventeen years on "Burlington Daily Free Press," fifteen years as night editor; purchased the St. Johnsbury "Caledonian" in 1909, and the "Ranlet Press" in 1910, operating the combined business; is president and treasurer of the Caledonian Company. Republican; chairman of the Republican State Convention 1906; mayor of Burlington [Chittenden County] 1907-1909; member of the special tax commission for Vermont 1898-1900. An attendant of the Episcopal Church. Member Burlington Lodge No. 100, Free & Accepted Masons; was first secretary of St. Johnsbury Commercial Club. In 1895 he [Walter J. BIGELOW] married Florence E.
