Burlington, Ullery, 1912, p 106 Charles John BAILEY, Groton [Caledonia County, Vermont], station agent, was born 20 July 1867, son of Charles R. and Myrilla (McLURE) BAILEY. Educated in the public schools at South Ryegate [Caledonia County]. At the age of fourteen entered the store of George T. HALL, South Ryegate, as clerk, remaining there until the fall of 1884; in 1885 began railroad business at the railroad station at South Ryegate; in February 1887, appointed operator at Warren [Grafton County], New Hampshire, remaining until October 1888; in 1889 station agent at South Ryegate; February 1893, transferred to Barre [Washington County, Vermont] for the Montpelier & Wells River Railroad; and in January 1895, transferred to Groton, which position he still holds. In 1892 Charles John BAILEY married [Miss?] Mary Eva ADAMS, of Chelsea [Suffolk County], Massachusetts. Mr. BAILEY is a Democrat; town constable and tax collector 1897-1898; town auditor 1900-1907, and again in 1910; selectman 1908; represented Groton in the Legislature, 1902. In religious belief a Presbyterian. Member of Pulaski Lodge No. 58, Free & Accepted Masons; Mt. Lebanon Chapter No. 13, Royal Arch Masons; Mt. Zion Commandery No. 9, Knights Templar; Vermont Consistory, 32 degrees; Mt. Sinai Temple, Nobles of the Mystic Shrine; Temple Lodge No. 10, Independent Order of Odd Fellows; Caledonia Lodge No 15, Knights of Pythias, and a member of the Grand Lodge of Vermont; Groton Camp No. 8514, Modern Woodmen of America; Pythian Sisters, Rebekahs; and Order of the Eastern Star; also member of the Order of Railway Telegraphers.
