Fred J. BABCOCK, merchant, St. Johnsbury, was born 06 November 1879 at St. 
Johnsbury [Caledonia County, Vermont], son of Albert Woodbury and Adwina 
Minerva (ASTLE) BABCOCK. Educated in the public schools, St. Johnsbury 
Academy, class of 1898, and Barbour Business College of St. Johnsbury. Was 
bookkeeper in Citizens Savings Bank and Trust Company, 1900-1901; traveling 
auditor for Swift & Company, meat packers, Chicago, 1901-1905; office manager 
of Derby Desk Company, Boston, 1905-1910; since January 1911, treasurer of the 
Amos W. Scott Company. Republican. Member and trustee of the Universalist 
Church. In 1900 held the office of principal sojourner in Haswell Chapter 
No. 11, Royal Arch Masons; member of Towanda Club, Woburn, Massachusetts; 
member and ex-vice-commodore of Innitor Canoe Club, Woburn, Massachusetts; 
and member of committee on industrial development in St. Johnsbury Commercial 
Club. In 1905 he married Edna SCOTT of St. Johnsbury; they have one son, 
Scott Adelbert.
