ALLEN, physician and surgeon, St. Johnsbury, Vermont, was born 04 February 1868 in St. Johnsbury, Caledonia County, Vermont, son of David S. and Abigail (ALVORD) ALLEN. He was educated at St. Johnsbury Academy, graduating in 1889; at the University of Vermont Medical College, graduating in 1890; and at Bellevue Hospital Medical College, New York, graduating in 1891. In 1893 John M. ALLEN married Winnifred D. HALL of St. Johnsbury. He has practiced his profession in St. Johnsbury, and for the past seven years has confined himself solely to surgery. He is a Republican; Secretary of the United States board of pension examiners; and colonel and surgeon-in-chief on the staff of Governor John A. MEAD. Dr. ALLEN attends the Congregational Church; is a member of Passumpsic Lodge No. 27, Free & Accepted Masons; Haswell Chapter No. 11, Royal Arch Masons; Caledonia Council No. 13, Royal & Select Masons; Palestine Commandery No. 5, Knights Templar, and Mt.
