YULE, James W. History of Northern Wisconsin. Chicago: Western Historical, 1881, p 164 Prof. James W. YULE, teacher, was born 14 February 1848 in Lake County, Illinois, a son of James and Jessie YULE, natives of Scotland. His early life was spent on his father's farm in the town of Newport, Lake County, Illinois. In 1873 he graduated at the State University of Ann Arbor [Washtenaw County], Michigan. In 1876 he became Principal of the Alma Public School, which position he still holds. James W. YULE married [Miss?} Charlotte E. SKINNER, a native of New York. They have one child, George R. [The family was enumerated in the 1880 census of Alma, Buffalo County, Wisconsin: James W. YULE, thirty-two, teacher, born in Illinois, about 1848 by his census age, which agrees with his year of birth given in the biography, to parents born in Scotland; his wife, Charlotte, twenty-six, born in New York, about 1854, to a father born in Connecticut and mother born in New York; his son George R., two, born in Wisconsin, about 1878; and his mother-in-law, Fanny SKINNER, widow, sixty-five, born in New York, about 1815, to parents also born in New York.] [Lake County, Illinois is south of and adjacent to Kenosha County, Wisconsin, where several members of the YULE family from Scotland settled. Alexander YULE, born in Scotland about 1795, was married twice and had a total of sixteen children. See the Kenosha County biographies of William YULE, George YULE, and John T. YULE. The biographies of Benjamin F., George A., and Herbert M. can also be found there.] Submitted by Cathy Kubly
