WESTERKAMP, F. H. History of Northern Wisconsin. Chicago: Western Historical, 1881, p 168 F. H. WESTERKAMP, boot and shoe store, Fountain City [Buffalo County, Wisconsin], was born 19 July 1818 in Germany; came to America in 1853, and settled in Galena [Jo Daviess County], Illinois; and in 1854 came to Fountain City, and has since been engaged in shoemaking. He married [Miss?] Maria ENGEL, a native of Germany. [Marriage not verified by submitter.] They have four children: Henry, Gerhardt, Dora, and Lizzie. [The family is enumerated in the 1880 census of Fountain City, Buffalo County, Wisconsin: F. H., sixty-two, boot and shoemaker, born in Hanover, about 1818 from his census age, which supports the year of birth given in the biography; his wife, Maria D., fifty-seven, also born in Hanover, about 1823; his son, Gerhart, twenty-eight, single, boot and shoemaker, born in Hanover, about 1852; and (2) Louis BOHN, thirteen, also born in Hanover. Enumerated in his own household in the 1880 census of Fountain City is (3) H. WESTERKAMP (Henry of the biography), twenty-nine, boot and shoemaker, born in Hanover, about 1851; with his wife, Sophia, twenty-five, also born in Hanover.] [Dora and Lizzie (Elizabeth?) WESTERKAMP, the daughters of F. H., are not with the parents in the 1880 enumeration of Fountain City. Submitter did not track the WESTERKAMP family backward in previous census years to determine the point at which the each daughter was no longer enumerated with the family. Bracketed material added by submitter (who is not researching these surnames) to support and clarify information given in the biography and to raise questions.] Submitted by Cathy Kubly
