GINZKEY, Julius History of Northern Wisconsin. Chicago: Western Historical, 1881, p 163 Julius GINZKEY, saloon, Alma, was born 23 January 1845 in Austria. [Julius is listed in the 1880 census of Alma, Buffalo County, Wisconsin, where his surname appears more like GUIZKEY, thirty-six years of age, thus born about 1844, saloon keeper, born in Austria to parents also born there.] He came to America in 1857, and settled at Alma. He attended school at La Crosse two years; he then went to St. Louis [St. Louis County, Missouri], and from there to Quincy [Adams County], Illinois. He was afterwards in La Crosse three years, where he learned the trade of harness making, and in 1864 started a shop in this place [Alma]. He has been Postmaster two years. Julius GINZKEY married Julia BERG [a maiden name?], a native of New York. They have two children, Raymond and Alma Nora. [Also enumerated in the 1880 household of Julius GINZKEY are his wife Julia, age twenty nine, born in New York, by her census age about 1851, to parents also born there; and two children: (1) Raymond, age nine, born about 1871; and (2) A. Elnora, the Alma Nora of the biography, age seven, thus born about 1873. Is Julius GINZKEY related to Henry GINZKEY, who also resided in Alma? (See also the Buffalo County, Wisconsin, biography of Henry GINZKEY.) Are either or both of them related to George W. or George E. GINZKEY, who both resided with their families in Mondovi, Buffalo County, Wisconsin, according to the 1880 census? Bracketed material added by submitter (who is not researching these surnames) to support and clarify information given in the biography and to raise questions.] Submitted by Cathy Kubly
