FIEDLER, Henry History of Northern Wisconsin. Chicago: Western Historical, 1881, p 166 Henry FIEDLER, butcher and beer agent, Fountain City [Cross Township (1878 Atlas), Buffalo County, Wisconsin], was born 14 December 1846 in Prussia [to parents who were also born in Prussia]. He came to America in 1859 and located with his parents in Lafayette County, Wisconsin. In 1866 he came to this place [Fountain City] and was in the brewery business until 1880, when he engaged in his present occupation. Henry FIEDLER married Catherine [Katharina] SMITH, a native of [Wurtemberg] Germany [who was born about 1845 to parents also born in Wurtemberg]. They have two children: (1) Michael [born in Wisconsin about 1872, enumerated in the 1880 census as "Michael H."], and (2) Hannah. [Hannah was born in Wisconsin about 1874, and listed in the 1880 census of Fountain City, Buffalo County, Wisconsin, p 297 D, as "Maria Hannah." Also enumerated in this household was Mary SCHMITT, age twelve, single, sister-in-law of Henry FIEDLER, born in Wurtemberg to parents also born there. If Mary SCHMITT is the sister of Katharina, then Henry FIEDER married "Mrs. Katharina SMITH," whose married name had been "Katharina SCHMITT" before her prior marriage, or is the biography in error, Henry marrying a "SMITH" rather than a "SCHMITT?"] [There is only one reference to FIEDLER in the 1881 History of La Fayette County, Wisconsin: "B. FIEDLER" is listed (p 605) as a Supervisor for the Town of Elk Grove for 1874. There are two FIEDLER households enumerated in the 1880 census of Elk Grove, Lafayette County, Wisconsin, both on p 85 A. One is Bernard FIEDLER (the "B. FIEDLER" who was Supervisor in 1874?), a farmer, age fifty-two (by calculation about 1828) in Prussia to Prussian-born parents, with his wife Kate and six children (Phebe, John, Bernard, Herman, Ernest, Joseph). The other is Henry FIEDLER, age 26, born (by his census age about 1854) in Prussia to Prussian-born parents, residing with his wife Kate and infant daughter, Kate A.
