BEHLMER, Henry History of Northern Wisconsin. Chicago: Western Historical, 1881, p 166 Henry BEHLMER, merchant, Fountain City [Cross Township (per 1878 Atlas), Buffalo County, Wisconsin], was born 20 January 1844 in [Hanover] Germany. In 1851 he came to America with his parents and first settled in Sheboygan [Sheboygan County, Wisconsin], where they lived two years. From there they went to La Crosse [LaCrosse County, Wisconsin]. In 1854 they came to this village [Fountain City] and have since resided here. The subject of this sketch has been in various businesses prior to his present. He [Henry BEHLMER] married Mary ERHART, a native of Iowa. They have one child, Mary. [The Henry BEHLMER family is enumerated in the 1880 census of Fountain City, Buffalo County, Wisconsin, p 300 B, as follows: Henry, age thirty-six, thus born about 1844, consistent with the year of birth given in the biography, dry goods merchant, born in Hanover to parents also born there; his wife Mary, age twenty-six, born in Iowa, about 1854 by her age, to parents both born in Wurtemberg, Germany; and daughter "Mathilda," not Mary, age two years, born in Wisconsin. Submitter is not researching BEHLMER; the information in brackets is added to support that given in the biography before submitting it to this website.] Submitted by Cathy Kubly
