Bennington MANLY, John Jr. Vermont Historical Magazine, No. XI, October 1867, p 184 (extracted from a section on the history of Dorset, Bennington County, Vermont) John MANLY, Jr. was one of the four first families which settled in town [Bennington, Bennington County, Vermont], and was soon followed by his father, Deacon John MANLY, whose wife was a half sister of Benedict ARNOLD. Deacon MANLY settled at Dorset village on the place still owned by his descendants. He [Deacon John MANLY] died in 1803, aged ninety years. John MANLY, Jr. settled on the farm still owned by his grandson, Edmond MANLY. His trade was that of a cabinet maker.
