Burlington: Ullery Publishing Company, 1912, p 229 Frank Edmund HOWE, editor and publisher, Bennington [Bennington County, Vermont], was born 02 October 1870 at Heath [Franklin County], Massachusetts, son of Edmund Perry and Laura (WORDEN) HOWE. Educated in the district schools, and at West Brattleboro Academy [Windham County, Vermont]. Learned the printer's trade at Brattleboro in the office of the Brattleboro "Reformer." Became reporter for that paper; later reporter for the Montpelier [Washington County, Vermont] "Argus." Did newspaper work at Rensselaer [Rensselaer County], New York, and at Palm Beach [Palm Beach County], Florida. Was the first editor of the Montpelier "Daily Record," which afterwards became the Montpelier "Daily Journal." Was sub-editor of the Barre [Washington County, Vermont] "Daily Times" three years; in 1902 bought two weekly papers at Bennington; consolidated them, and founded the Bennington "Evening Banner." Has been editor and publisher of same since 1903. Republican; represented Bennington in the Vermont Legislature 1908 and 1910; was chosen speaker of the House 1910; was presidential elector on the Republican ticket in 1908, and was chosen messenger to take the Vermont electoral vote to Washington. Has served several years as trustee of the Bennington graded school district; and is a member of the board of directors of the Bennington Public Library. Episcopalian; vestryman of St. Peter's church, Bennington, for several years; and has been one of the delegates from that parish to the diocesan conventions. Member of the Masonic fraternity, the Order of Elks, Grange, Eagles, Sons of Veterans, and the Bennington Club; an honorary member of the Grand Army of the Republic; member of the Bennington fire department, in which he has served as president and treasurer. In 1895 Mr. [Frank Edmund] HOWE married [Miss?] Flora CUMMINS of Montpelier [Washington County, Vermont]; they have two children, Edmund Perry and Paul Cummins. Submitted by Cathy Kubly
