Bennington HARVEY, Norman Vermont Historical Magazine, No. XI, October 1867, p 226 (extracted from a section on the history of Rupert, Bennington County, Vermont) In 1832 another flood occurred on another branch of White Creek, completely tearing up the highway for half a mile, sweeping away every bridge across the stream, and everything off the house of Norman HARVEY, the First Constable of the town [Rupert, Bennington County, Vermont]. His pocketbook, containing a considerable amount of money, which he had collected on State taxes, was carried off and never recovered. The Legislature, the following year, passed a special act, crediting him with the sum lost. Submitted by Cathy Kubly
