Burlington: Ullery Publishing Company, 1912, p 212 Thomas HANNON, Bennington [Bennington County, Vermont], superintendent of Vermont Soldier's Home, was born 17 November 1843 at Danville [Caledonia County, Vermont], son of James and Mary (HAYES) HANNON. Educated in the public schools of Guildford [Windham County, Vermont]. Went to Brattleboro [Windham County] in 1870, and was in the employ of the Estey Organ Company as foreman of one of the departments for thirty-one years. On 01 August 1901 elected, by the board of trustees, general superintendent of the Vermont Soldier's Home, which position he now holds. In 1861 Thomas HANNON joined a volunteer company in Guilford; enlisted in June 1862 in Company K, Ninth Vermont Regiment; mustered out June 1865 as orderly sergeant; participated in all the battles the regiment was in; served as second and first lieutenant; in 1874 the Fuller Light Battery was organized, of which he was one of the original members; commissioned by Gov. Levi K. FULLER on 07 December 1892, as lieutenant colonel of the first brigade, Vermont National Guard, with rank of assistant quartermaster general, which position he held until the brigade was disbanded by special act of the state Legislature in December 1900. Republican; bailiff of the village of Brattleboro [Windham County]; also constable of the town for a number of years. Member of Universalist Church, Brattleboro; trustee of the church a number of years. Member Mt. Anthony Lodge No. 13, Free & Accepted Masons; Fort Dummer Chapter No. 12, Royal Arch Masons; Beauseant Commandery No. 7, Knights Templar; Cairo Temple; Wantastiquet Lodge No. 5, Independent Order of Odd Fellows; the Bennington Club; G. A. Custer Sixth Corps Post, Grand Army of the Republic; has held the position of assistant quartermaster general and senior vice commander of the department of Vermont, Grand Army of the Republic. In 1869 he [Thomas HANNON] married [Miss?] Ellen M. WEATHERHEAD of Guilford [Windham County, Vermont]; they have two children: Benjamin J.; and Martha G., [who is now] Mrs. Edward WHITNEY.
