Brattleboro: Transcript Publishing Company, 1894, pp 176-177 (portrait p 176) Samuel Baker HALL, of Bennington, was born 17 February 1846 at Bennington [Bennington County, Vermont], son of Marshall Carter and Sophia B. (DEMING) HALL. His education was obtained in the Bennington public schools and seminary, and also at the Rock Point Episcopal Institute at Burlington [Chittenden County, Vermont], and Phillips Exeter Academy of Andover [Essex County], Massachusetts. Commenced his business career as clerk in a dry goods commission house in New York City. In the fall of 1867 he received the appointment of bookkeeper of the First National Bank at North Bennington; in 1873 promoted to cashier, which office he continues to fill. In 1890 was elected treasurer of the Bennington & Rutland Railroad; is interested in real estate, and also in the bank with which he is connected. Republican. Has never taken an active interest in politics; has been compelled to give the principal part of his time and attention to his business affairs; but has served the village at different times in local offices; at present chairman of the North Bennington school board. Liberal supporter of the Congregational society at North Bennington; an attendant of that church. On 03 October 1870 Mr. [Samuel Baker] HALL was united in marriage to Sarah, daughter of George W. and Jane (HINSDILL) ROBINSON, of Bennington. Their children are: Deming, Robinson, Francis H.
