ATWATER who keeps house; and two individuals unrelated to John.] Educated at Bennington graded and high school; at Phillips Academy, Andover [since a state other than Vermont is not specified, author probably means "Phillips Academy" in Andover, Windsor County, Vermont, but could be "Phillips Exeter Academy" in Andover, Essex County, Massachusetts], and at Columbia Law School, New York City. Was for many years in the fire insurance business under the firm name of John Hall & Son. Republican; was county clerk of Bennington County from 1888-1894; chairman of the Independent party state committee in 1906. Member of the Congregational Church. Member of the [Sons of] American Revolution [according to the National Register, Sons of the American Revolution, 1902, p 975, Edward J. HALL was the grandson of Hiland and Dolly T. (DAVIS) HALL; is this Hiland HALL the same Hiland HALL who was Governor of Vermont from 1858 to 1860?], and the Bennington Battle Monument and Historical Society.
