Educated in the public schools; Burr and Burton Seminary; Dartmouth College, B. L. 1893; New York Law School LL. B., 1896. Admitted to the New York bar in 1896, and to the Vermont bar in 1909; practiced law in New York City from 1896 to 1899; was manager of the Whiteface Inn, Lake Placid [Essex County, New York] 1899-1902; assistant manager of the Astor House, New York, one year; manager of Churchill Hall and Rexmere Hotel, Stamford [Delaware County], New York, three years; proprietor of Marlboro Inn, Montclair [Suffolk County], New York, two years. Came to East Dorset [Bennington County, Vermont] in 1908, and engaged in mercantile business with his father for one year. Republican; first selectman of Dorset one year; in 1910 elected judge of probate for Manchester district, which position he now holds.
