Bennington GARDNER, Abraham Brooks Men of Vermont: Illustrated Biographical History of Vermonters & Sons of Vermont. Ullery. Brattleboro: Transcript Publishing Company, 1894, pp 153-154 (portrait p 154) Abraham Brooks GARDNER, of Pownal, was born 06 January 1858 at Pownal [Bennington County, Vermont], son of Samuel J. and Jennette (MERCHANT) GARDNER. After his education was finished in the Bennington public schools, he labored on his father's farm, where he remained until his twenty-second year, when he bought an estate of his own. In 1866 he was elected to represent his town [Pownal] in the Legislature, an office which he ably filled for one term. For the past four years he has been and is now, one of the selectmen of Pownal. A prominent member of the Masonic body. In religious preference a Baptist. In October 1880 he [Abraham Brooks GARDNER] was married to Miss Audria M., daughter of D. F. and H. E. BATES. Their children [the children of Abraham Brooks and Audria M. (BATES) GARDNER] are Florence A., Daniel F., and Jennette M. Submitted by Cathy Kubly
