Burlington: Ullery Publishing Company, 1912, p 196 Joseph W. FOWLER, Manchester, was born 13 May 1837 in Manchester [Bennington County, Vermont], son of Harvey K. and Mary Jane (NOBLE) FOWLER. Educated at Burr and Burton Seminary, and at Bingham's Military Academy, North Carolina; studied law in the office of Harvey K. FOWLER; admitted to the Vermont bar 1879; practiced law under the firm name of Fowler & Son; since 1900 has devoted entire time to insurance. Republican; has held nearly all of the town offices; chairman of the school board; member of the district committee; represented Manchester in the Vermont Legislature 1902; senator from Bennington County 1904. In religious belief a Congregationalist. In 1800 he married Hattie M. DOLE; she [Hattie M. FOWLER] died 19 January 1882; they had one son, Arthur Dole FOWLER; in 1884 he [Joseph W.
