Bennington FIELD, Amos Vermont Historical Magazine, No XI, October 1867, pp 187-188 (extracted from a section on the history of Dorset) Amos FIELD and his wife came into town [Dorset, Bennington County, Vermont] from Mansfield [Tolland County], Connecticut, and settled on the farm about two miles north from the village of Dorset, still known as the Field Farm. He was a great grandson of Zacharias [Zachariah? Zechariah?] FIELD, one of the first settlers of the city of Hartford [Hartford County, Connecticut], and from whom has descended nearly all of that name in America. Mr. and Mrs. [Amos] FIELD lived and died on the place where they first settled, leaving a posterity numbering eleven children and 121 grandchildren and great grandchildren. By the marriage of the eldest daughter with Justus KELLOGG, and by intermarriage with the KENT family has sprung a numerous band of relatives in town and inaptly represented by the well known marble firm of Holley, Field & Kent, a trio of cousins by whose enterprise and activity $100,000 worth of marble is annually quarried and prepared for market. [In a section dealing with the history of Jericho, Chittenden County, Vermont, page 834, is the following: "Two brothers, David and Jedediah FIELD, from Guilford [New Haven County], Connecticut, were among the old and honored men in our boyhood, and their children are among the honored men at the present time." Were David and Jedediah Field related to Amos FIELD?
