Burlington: Ullery Publishing Company, 1912, pp 182-183 Emerson ESTABROOK, granite and marble dealer, Bennington [Bennington County, Vermont], was born 20 July 1843 at Somerset [Windham County, Vermont], son of Joel Benjamin and Sybil (EDDY) ESTABROOK. Educated in the public schools and Burr and Burton Seminary, Manchester [Bennington County]. Began work on a farm at the age of nine years, receiving $4.50 per month, remaining five years; at thirteen years received a man's wages; at twenty-two began the sale of books, continuing two years; in 1867 purchased a building at Factory Point [town of Manchester], remodeling it to three stories with opera house therein; for two seasons manager Boston Opera Company, and Lotus Glee Club; since 1872 in the granite and marble business with the exception of two years which he spent in laying out the Morningside Cemetery at Brattleboro [Windham County], and the Bennington Park Lawn Cemetery. In 1892 his block in Manchester [Bennington County] was destroyed by fire with seven other buildings, when he removed to Brattleboro; salesman for cemetery work to present time. In national politics is a Republican. Member of the Baptist Church at Factory Point [town of Manchester, Bennington County, Vermont]. Member of Independent Order of Odd Fellows for forty-five years; past grand of subordinate and Rebekah Lodge; member Adoniram Lodge No. 42, Free & Accepted Masons, and Adoniram Chapter, Royal Arch Masons at Manchester for a period of forty-four years. In 1863 he [Emerson ESTABROOK] married [Miss?] Cornelia Maria HOYT of Manchester [Bennington County, Vermont]; she [Cornelia Maria ESTABROOK] died in 1912; they had four children: Charles H., deceased; Frank H., of Portage, Columbia County, Wisconsin; Mary Frances; and Benjamin Norman.
