Bennington DUNLAP, Thomas Hiram Men of Vermont: Illustrated Biographical History of Vermonters & Sons of Vermont. Ullery. Brattleboro: Transcript Publishing Company, 1894, pp 113-114 (portrait p 113) Thomas Hiram DUNLAP, of South Shaftsbury [Bennington County, Vermont], was born 13 August 1853 in Arlington [Bennington County, Vermont], son of Marshall and Thalia (MATTISON) DUNLAP. Commencing with the public schools of Arlington and Shaftsbury, he concluded his education at Burr and Burton Seminary, and Bryant & Stratton's Business College at Manchester [Hillsborough County], New Hampshire. After a brief experience as teacher and farmer, he obtained a position as clerk in White Creek [White Creek in Rensselaer or White Creek in Washington County?], New York, remaining until the spring of 1878, when he returned to Shaftsbury and again engaged in agricultural pursuits. In the fall of 1882 he entered the employ of W. P. Mattison & Company as clerk, remaining there to the present time. Mr. DUNLAP was census enumerator in 1890 and two years after represented Shaftsbury in the Legislature, in which he was assigned to the committee of highways, bridges and ferries. Baptist. Has taken the obligations of Free Masonry, being actively connected with Tucker Lodge No. 48, of North Bennington. On 10 June 1891, Mr. [Thomas Hiram] DUNLAP married Addie, daughter of William B. and Harriet (COLE) MATTISON, of South Shaftsbury [Bennington County, Vermont]. Submitted by Cathy Kubly
