Bennington DUDLEY, Peter Vermont Historical Magazine, No XI, October 1867, p 210 [excerpt from a section on the history of Peru] Peter DUDLEY was born 04 November 1773 in Littleton [Middlesex County], Massachusetts; married in March 1800 [Miss?] Lucy HARNARD; and came to Peru [Bennington County, Vermont] in 1801. He was first Captain of the Militia Company formed in 1805, and rose in office until he became Brigadier General. He had five sons and eight daughters, ten of whom are still living. Two of his sons, Peter and Stephen, excelled in military tactics. Peter, now living in Rutland [Rutland County, Vermont], having been made an officer in the regiment before he was of age; while Stephen, like his father, became a Brigadier General. James, the third son, is a lawyer, in Central New York. This was a prominent family in town. Submitted by Cathy Kubly
