Burlington: Ullery Publishing Company, 1912, p 128 Frederick Clark BROWN, lumber manufacturer, Pownal [Bennington County, Vermont], was born 08 April 1870 in North Adams [Berkshire County], Massachusetts, son of Martin V. and Lura (TITUS) BROWN. Educated in the public schools of Pownal, and at the Troy, New York [Rensselaer County], Business College. Mr. BROWN was principal of the commercial department of Putnam Business College, Putnam [Windham County], Connecticut, 1890-1901. He worked as a traveling salesman for American Harrow Company, Detroit [Wayne County], Michigan, 1901-1903. Since 1903 Mr. BROWN has been in the general lumber business in Pownal. In 1904 he [Frederick Clark BROWN] married Susie M. LEONARD of Shoreham [Addison County, Vermont], who died in 1908. They had three children: Leonard M., Frederick C. Jr., and Henry E. Mr. BROWN is a Democrat; has been town auditor since 1904 and chairman of the board; lister two years; chairman of the board of license commissioners four years, and moderator at town meetings for many years; represented Pownal in the Legislature in 1906, serving as a member of the committee on elections. He is Esteemed Leading Knight of the Bennington Lodge of Elks, No. 567, and a member of the Manchester Unity Lodge, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, of Pownal. Submitted by Cathy Kubly
