Educated in the public schools of Peru, Westfield State Normal School, Westfield [Hampden County], Massachusetts; Williston Seminary, East Hampton, Massachusetts; and Boston University, Boston, Massachusetts. Commissioner of insolvency, Middlesex County, Massachusetts; member school board, Ayer [Middlesex County], Massachusetts; member of school board, Fitchburg, Massachusetts; after that in Ayer. Commissioned for life as commissioner to qualify civil officers; commissioned associate judge municipal court, Fitchburg, 1903, now held by the appointee. Practice in United States and District Courts; largely engaged in equity practice. In 1874 he [Clark Asa BATCHELDER] married Catherine W. HARD of Manchester [Bennington County, Vermont]. They have three children: (1) Mary C., Mrs. Edward FLETCHER, San Diego [San Diego County], California; (2) Louise S., San Diego; and (3) Eugene C., San Diego. Mr. BATCHELDER is a Republican. He has never held or been a candidate for political office. He is a member of Rollstone Congregational Church; past master of St. Paul Lodge, Free & Accepted Masons, Ayer, Massachusetts; at present affiliated with Aurora Lodge of Fitchburg. [The Vermont Historical Magazine, No XI, October 1867, page 212, mentions BATCHELDER brothers who were early settlers of Peru, Bennington County, Vermont: "In the early settlement of the town, three BARNARD brothers: Josiah, Benjamin, and Stowell; three BATCHELDER brothers: John, Israel, and Edmund; and three STONE brothers: Samuel, Josiah, and Joseph, came into the place. Of these nine but three are now living in town; but their descendants form quite an important portion of the inhabitants. Is Clark Asa BATCHELDER descended from one of these BATCHELDER brothers?
