Bennington BARNARD, Alonzo Vermont Historical Magazine, No XI, October 1867, p 212 Alonzo BARNARD, son of Josiah BARNARD, was born in Peru [Bennington County, Vermont]. When a lad of fourteen or fifteen years, his father [Josiah BARNARD] went to Ohio to live. Alonzo graduated at Oberlin [Oberlin College in Lorain County, Ohio], and became a Pioneer Missionary, at Red Lake and vicinity [Minnesota?]; and has undergone hardships almost unparalleled. [On the same page, in the section dealing with the history of Peru, the following is found regarding the brothers Josiah, Benjamin, and Stowell BARNARD: "In the early settlement of the town [Peru, Bennington County, Vermont], three BARNARD brothers: Josiah, Benjamin, and Stowell; three BATCHELDER brothers: John, Israel, and Edmund; and three STONE brothers: Samuel, Josiah, and Joseph, came into the place. Of these nine but three are now living in town; but their descendants form quite an important portion of the inhabitants." The three BARNARD brothers were likely the children of Benjamin BARNARD, Sr., born in 1750, and Lucy WOOD, born in 1752.
