Co., 1894, part II, pp 14-16 Charles BALDWIN, of Dorset [Vermont] was born 30 October 1816 in Dorset [Bennington County, Vermont], son of Thomas and Polly (LANFEAR) BALDWIN. His education was obtained in the public and select schools of Dorset. In 1835 he went to work for his brother and learned the trade of a cooper and after four years of this employment he removed to Rutland [Rutland County, Vermont], where he entered the employ of Gersham CHENEY. He then returned to his brother, and finally purchased the business in 1841, and until 1891 continued to follow his vocation in that locality. On 04 February 1848 Mr. [Charles] BALDWIN was married to Susan, daughter of Rev. William and Susanna (CRAM) JACKSON of Dorset, who died in November 1878. The second wife of Charles BALDWIN was [Miss?] Mary E. WILLARD of Castleton [Rutland County, Vermont], whom he married 04 June 1879. She [Mary E. BALDWIN] died in July 1889. The third wife of Charles BALDWIN, whom he married 30 December 1889, was Sarah, daughter of Charles and Adah (EELLS) BANGS of Lenox [Berkshire County], Massachusetts. Mr. BALDWIN has been a strong Republican since the formation of the party and has held most of the town offices, serving as county commissioner since 1882. Mr. BALDWIN is a stockholder in the Factory Point National Bank and the Battenkill Industrial Society as well as a large owner of real estate. In his religious views Mr. BALDWIN is a Congregationalist and has always taken a deep interest in the welfare of the Sunday school and all other means for the advancement of religion in the church and society. William J. FULLER, while living with Mr. [Charles] BALDWIN, enlisted in Company G, First Vermont Cavalry, and died in Andersonville in August 1864, and in honor of his memory W. J. Fuller Post No. 52, Grand Army of the Republic, in Dorset, is named. Submitted by Cathy Kubly
